Top 3 Computers 2022

With 2022 finally coming to a close, Eco Dive Center Presents The Best of 2022 Lists, a look at our top picks of the most high end products from various categories.
Computers seem to be the one technology in Scuba that does evolve at a consistent rate and were able to see some amazing pieces of technology from some of these Scuba brands. We will break down this list into two parts. The first is the Best Computers in terms of performance, build, customer service, and will not take price into consideration. This is the Top 3 Computers list for 2022.
Best Overall
Shearwater Perdix 2 AI
The Shearwater Perdix 2 takes the prize for the best overall computer of 2022. It's got a titanium bezel around the 2.2 inch full color screen which is perfect for those divers who want a bigger screen. You get all the info you need on a single panel rather than having to flip through multiple screens just to find your depth or air. Of course the biggest reason why the Perdix 2 is sitting at the top of our list is due to Shearwater's insanely accurate algorithms. Any experienced diver will tell you the importance of a good algorithm and Shearwater holds the crown. The power is supplied from removable AA batteries so you don't have to worry about the computer dying during a trip as AA batteries are extremely accessible.
Like all the computers on this list it comes with a digital compass and air integration. Although there are some great computers out there that don't have those two features, for us to consider any computer to go toe to toe with the best, it needs to have both a compass and air integration. It does everything from high mix nitrox to rebreathers all with the best algorithm money can buy.
Shearwater Teric
If the console type computer isn't for you the Teric is Shearwater's answer to the demand of a sports watch look. It does everything the Perdix 2 does except in a smaller, more compact screen. Although small and compact is what some divers want, keep in mind that compared to the Perdix 2 the battery life is much lower and you aren't able to visualize the same amount of information without flipping through screens during your dive. This does mean that the Perdix 2 takes the crown for its AA battery use rather than having to keep a portable charger with you on the boat. Either way you will definitely own the best computer money can buy. The true end game to your computer needs.
Garmin Decent MK2i
This would be the 3rd and final computer on the tier list. The MK2i is for divers in need for an end game watch while also in the market for a sports watch for above water usage. One of the advantages it has over every computer on the market is GPS. Now of course it's good to keep in mind that the GPS does not function underwater but is an easy way to mark dive sites and help with above water navigation. There's little to no use for the GPS as a diver but it is a very unique trait that we should cover.
The next advantage is that the AI Transmitter uses sonar technology which is much more reliable at longer ranges compared to the standard Bluetooth transmitters other brands use. The one downside to the sonar transmitter is the fact that every once in a while you can literally hear the ping from the sonar every few seconds. Otherwise it's a perfectly good sports watch if you bike or hike that can also act as your endgame dive computer. It does come in at around 1,849.99 for both the transmitter and watch which does put the Garmin Decent MK2i as the most expensive computer on this list but for what it does you definitely get more than you paid for.
At the end of the day when we are ranking the best of the best there are little to no differences in quality, performance, and price. It's mostly going to be personal preferences and if you are happy with one then that's all that matters. 2023 is around the corner and so we will continue to update you guys with future releases and hopefully we see some new computers dethrone this years winners.
