The White Seabass - NOT A BASS!
Posted by Jason on on 14th Dec 2022
Did you know? The white seabass is not a bass at all. It is a type of croaker. They get their name from the “croaking” sound they generate by pushing their abdominal muscles against their swim bladder. They range from 3-5 feet in length and weigh over 90 lbs. They are blue/grey in color on their back and have a silver belly. They can be found all along the California coast usually in the shallows, swimming through the kelp forest. Keep an eye out in the distance – they are very skittish and will bolt at the first sign of divers.
